Dig to spec. Hand off clean. · Rock hammering available
Pool shell excavation in Austin costs $4,500–$28,000. A standard rectangle in soil or light caliche runs about $4,500–$9,500. Limestone, freeform shapes and tight access push it up.
Your pool builder has a dig spec. We hit it: dimensions, depth, bench profile and equipment pad, staged and ready for the shell crew.
We dig to your pool builder's spec: length, width, shallow and deep depths, slope transition and bench seats. We confirm the spec before the first pass.
Central Texas is limestone and caliche country, most of all west of the Balcones Fault. We look for rock on the site walk and bring an excavator with a hydraulic hammer when we expect it, so the hole doesn't stall waiting on another rig.
The equipment pad is dug and graded to elevation in the same visit as the shell. Trenches from the pad to the shell edge go in at the same time, straight and ready for your plumber.
We haul the excavated material off unless you want fill kept on site. We keep an access path open for your shell crew and shotcrete truck and confirm staging before we mobilize.
West of the Balcones Fault, in Westlake, Lakeway, Bee Cave and Dripping Springs, Edwards and Glen Rose limestone sit at or near the surface. East of it you dig Austin Chalk and Blackland Prairie clay. Caliche, a cemented calcium carbonate layer, turns up on both sides.
Ledge rock doesn't move without the right machine and plan. We look for it on the site walk, and your pool builder hears about it before the build schedule is locked.
Rock is a common reason a pool dig runs long or over. We check for it on the walk and tell you what we expect before you commit dates.
Caliche at bench depth changes the profile. We flag it when we confirm the spec, before the shell crew is scheduled.
Excavator with a hydraulic hammer goes on jobs where rock is expected, so a harder layer than planned doesn't need a second mobilization.
In Austin, a protected tree is 19 inches or more in diameter, any species. A heritage tree is 24 inches or more and one of the listed species. Diameter is measured 4.5 feet above the ground. Digging, trenching or driving over the root zone can hurt the tree and trigger City review.
Trees that box in the dig are covered on our tight-lot and legacy-tree excavation page. Removal or work on a heritage tree is covered on our heritage tree clearing page.

We quote from your pool builder's dig spec: dimensions, profile, bench locations, equipment pad position. If the spec isn't final, we quote a range and lock the number when it is.
We walk the lot before mobilizing: access route, overhead clearance, utilities, ground conditions, nearby trees and the spoil staging area.
Dig to spec, with the hydraulic hammer for rock. We work in stages: rough shape, then profile, then bench and deep-end detail. Your builder's tolerances set the finish grade.
Equipment pad graded and compacted. Plumbing trench dug to your plumber's run. Both are done while the excavator is already on site.
Spoil hauled off. Access path clear for your shell crew and shotcrete truck. Final photos go to you and your pool builder before we demobilize.

If you build pools in Austin and Central Texas, we work from your dig spec, check ground conditions before you schedule your shell crew, and hand off a clean hole. One excavation partner for every pool on your calendar.
Pool shell excavation runs $4,500–$28,000. A standard rectangle in soil or light caliche is about $4,500–$9,500. Limestone, freeform shapes and tight access push a job toward the top. The site walk sets the number.
Rock is billed per cubic yard: $35–$45 when caliche or soft limestone rips, $65–$90 when hard limestone has to be hammered. When the volume can't be known before the hole is open, hammer work can be billed by the hour.
Most jobs start 1–3 weeks after approval. Call as soon as you have the dig spec, and we'll walk the site and give you a written quote. Written quote within 48 hours of the site walk.
Always. We confirm every dimension with you before the dig starts. If dimensions change during layout, we call you before moving dirt.
We stop, photograph the condition and call you. You get a revised number and make the call before we continue.
It can. Austin protects trees 19 inches or larger and heritage trees 24 inches or larger. Texas A&M Forest Service advises avoiding oak wounds from about February through June, and painting any fresh oak wound right away. We mark trees on the site walk and plan the machine path around them.
Yes. Haul is priced into the quote and we remove all excavated material. If you want fill kept on site for grade work, tell us when you send the spec.
That is a separate job. Full pool removal runs $30,000–$59,000 per pool. See our pool removal page.
