Common in drier, lower-elevation WUI zones throughout Summit County, Kamas, and Coalville. Slower-burning than oak but produces sustained, high-intensity heat and significant ember output. Dead juniper — especially with attached bark — is among the most hazardous fuel types on Utah WUI properties.

What drives the price up

Vegetation density and terrain grade are the primary variables. Light sagebrush thinning on a moderate slope is at the lower range. Dense gamble oak on 30%+ grades with rocky soils — common in Summit and Wasatch Counties — requires tracked equipment, slower production rates, and additional safety protocols.
