We break out and haul off concrete driveways, patios, walkways, pool decks and slabs across Austin and Central Texas. Removal runs $4–$8 per sq ft, and most residential jobs total $2,500–$7,500 in half a day to two days. Rebar is separated and the concrete goes to recycling.
Concrete removal is the controlled breakout and haul-off of existing hardscape (driveways, patios, walkways, pool decks and slabs) so the ground beneath is ready for the next phase. We break the concrete, separate the rebar, load it out and leave the subgrade at the elevation you specify. If you want a before-and-after record of surface grade and volume, we can add a drone scan for $500–$1,500 per scan. It is optional. Our drone scans measure surfaces, quantities and grades. They are not a boundary survey or a sealed survey by a licensed surveyor, and a drone cannot see below the ground surface.
Full driveway tearout from slab edge to street, including concrete aprons and approach slabs. Broken to haul size on site. Rebar separated and recycled. Subgrade left ready for new paving or landscaping.
Outdoor concrete hardscape removed flat and clean. Pool decks, entertainment patios, sidewalks and step slabs. Breakout is confined to the demolition zone, with adjacent structures and landscaping protected. Tight-access work uses our compact track loader or mini excavator when needed.
Full slab-on-grade breakout for infill lots, outbuildings and accessory structures. Rebar cut and staged for recycling. Subgrade left at the elevation you specify. Pairs with excavation on the same mobilization.
Concrete removal is priced by the square foot, which makes it one of the easier demo jobs to quote. At the site walk we measure the slab area and check thickness, rebar and access, then send a written quote. Written quote within 48 hours of the site walk. Thickness, rebar, reinforcement type, access and haul distance are what move the number.
| Service | Unit | Range | Typical timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard slab removal (driveways, patios, slabs to about 6 in. thick) | per sq ft | $4–$8 | 0.5–2 days |
| Typical residential job total (driveway, patio or small slab) | per job | $2,500–$7,500 | 0.5–2 days |
| Thick (8 in. and up) or heavily reinforced slab | per sq ft | Quoted after the site walk; the hydraulic hammer breaks it first | 1–3 days |
| Post-tension slab | per job | Quoted after we see the plans or markers; a specialist detensions first | Set by the specialist's schedule |
| Mobilization | per job | $725 typical; varies with distance | Shown as its own line on the quote |
| Optional drone scan (surface grade and volume record) | per scan | $500–$1,500 | Typically 2–3 business days after the flight |

Multiply the area by the rate, then add mobilization. Two worked examples at the low and high ends of the per-square-foot range:
| Job | Area x rate | Slab removal | With mobilization |
|---|---|---|---|
| 600 sq ft patio | 600 x $4–$8 | $2,400–$4,800 | $3,125–$5,525 |
| 1,000 sq ft driveway | 1,000 x $4–$8 | $4,000–$8,000 | $4,725–$8,725 |
The $2,500–$7,500 typical total is where most driveway and patio jobs land. A larger slab at the upper end of the per-square-foot range can run past it, and a very small one can come in under it. The quote shows area, rate and mobilization as separate lines so you can check the math.
Pricing reflects typical Central Texas residential and light commercial concrete removal. Cost drivers: slab thickness, rebar density, reinforcement type (standard or post-tension), access and haul distance. Post-tension slabs need special handling: we ask for the plans or markers and ask about tendons before we quote.
We measure the slab area, check thickness and rebar, and look at access and where the debris will stage. On older or larger slabs we ask for the plans or post-tension markers and ask about tendons before quoting, because post-tension changes how the slab is removed. You get a written quote with area, rate and mobilization on separate lines.
An excavator with a hydraulic thumb breaks, lifts and loads most residential concrete in a single pass. Thick or heavily reinforced slabs get the hydraulic hammer first, then the bucket finishes the extraction. Our compact track loader and mini excavator handle tight access such as pool decks and side-yard patios.
Rebar is separated on site and staged for steel recycling. The concrete is broken to haul size, loaded and taken to an Austin-area C&D recycling facility. Load tickets and receipts are available for your permit file or project close-out.
When the last load leaves, we walk the cleared area with you and leave the subgrade at the elevation agreed in the quote. If you added the optional drone scan, you also get a surface grade and volume report from the flight.
Our fleet includes a CAT 305.5E2 mini excavator and a Kobelco SK75 excavator, both with hydraulic hammers. Buckets and a thumb grip broken concrete sections for controlled loading. The hammer breaks thick or heavily reinforced slabs before extraction.
Compact track loader for pool decks, side-yard patios and gate-access-only work zones. It moves broken material to the loading point and cleans up the grade while the excavator keeps breaking.
Ram 3500 dually and Diamond C equipment trailer for moving machines. Dozers, larger excavators and compaction equipment are rented locally when a job needs them.
We separate rebar on site for steel recycling, haul concrete to Austin-area C&D recycling facilities, and keep the load tickets and receipts so you have them for your permit file or close-out.
Austin infill lots often come with legacy concrete: old driveways, slabs from demolished structures, aprons that don't line up with your new site plan. Concrete removal is the first line item in your site prep sequence. We remove it and leave the subgrade at your target elevation before your GC mobilizes. One crew and one mobilization.
See the Infill Developer JourneyThe client wants a new pool, but an existing concrete deck sits where the shell needs to go. Concrete removal pairs with pool excavation on the same mobilization. We take out the deck and your excavation crew starts on cleared ground.
See the Pool Builder JourneyStandard slab removal runs $4–$8 per sq ft. Typical driveway, patio and small slab jobs total $2,500–$7,500. Mobilization (typically $725, varies with distance) is a separate line. Thickness, rebar, access and haul distance move the number.
Post-tension slabs hold steel tendons under load, so a specialist has to detension them before anyone breaks the slab. We ask for the plans or post-tension markers and ask about tendons before we quote, so the specialist's step is priced in before we mobilize.
Yes. We work to the edge of the slab with a compact machine and keep breakout inside the demolition zone. We look at access at the site walk and pick the equipment from that.
Most residential jobs run half a day to two days. A 400–600 sq ft driveway is usually half a day, and a patio plus driveway of 1,200–2,000 sq ft is about a day. Large slabs run 1–3 days. Most jobs start 1–3 weeks after approval.
Rebar is separated on site and staged for steel recycling. The concrete is loaded out and hauled to an Austin-area C&D recycling facility. Load tickets and receipts are available for your permit or close-out file.
We check whether your address needs a demolition permit and say so in the quote. Where one applies we pull it or coordinate with whoever holds it.
